REFLECTION 1

After hearing Elesondra Deromano speak about her experience it was truly such an impacting and inspiring story. Reading about cases with human trafficking is way different than hearing a stroy from a victim of human trafficking. Being able to hear about someone’s story first hand makes me truly think and dive into the global issue human trafficking is. After hearing from Elesondra on how she began to be trafficked from a young age made me think about how many young children are put into this horrible situation that sometimes they can’t even identify and recognize what they are actually going through. I also thought about how much the system that is ‘meant’ to help those who have been hurt is the same one who also places them into places such as the foster care system that Elesondra mentioned since we know how unjust and cruel it is for many children who go into it. I want to be able to do more to not only advocate for the children both on the street but also in the foster care system but to also fight for them to be placed into a better and actual ‘home’ where their well being and safety is a priority not just a placement. Elesondra’s story really inspired me to expand my advocacy work and think of new ways I can help combat human trafficking such as volunteering with an organization to not only educate communities about human trafficking but to help people get the resources they need. I am also very inspired by Elesondra’s continued passion and ecstatic personality despite the challenges she had to overcome. Again, I am inspired and moved by her resilience and continued advocacy to work against human trafficking. I admire her strength in sharing her story and experiences with us since it’s something very personal that many people aren’t able to do.
